Katie Needs Sponsors

Meet Katie. She is such a sweetie-pie but she needs some expensive surgery. When Katie came to CRN we knew she had a lump on one of her mammary glands and knew that would need to be removed if it became larger or if it started bothering her but other than that she was in fairly good health for a 9-year-old gal. She had some slight arthritis so we put her on some Glucosomine and she perked up.

To make sure the lump on her chest was just a cyst we did some tests, including things like blood work, the old poke-and-prod and some other stuff just to verify it wasn't cancer. All the tests came back great, her organs were in terrific working order. Except for one thing. One big thing actually.

Katie has a very large mass inside her abdomen. She had some x-rays done and it was found the mass has shoved her bladder, her stomach and her colon out of it's way. We debated what to do. If the surgery didn't work, she could be incontinent for life. We waited, watching and monitoring the mass to see if it was growing at all because we had no way of knowing how long this enormous lump had been there inside her or what it was.

The vet is now certain the mass in her abdomen is not cancer, it is likely a very large cyst and they might be able to remove it.

Last week the cyst on her mammary gland got larger and is causing her discomfort. It really needs to be removed. So it's been decided that when she is put under for that surgery it will be a great opportunity for the vet to take a look and see if anything can be done about the mass in her abdomen. If, while she is under for the one cyst, they can remove the abdominal mass they will do it at that time.

Katie really needs sponsors to help pay for this surgery. At a minimum it will be around $1000 and if the surgery is complicated, well, it will be much more than that.

Katie is in over-all good health and we need to give her this opportunity to live a full and happy life. Once she recovers she will be ready to find her fur-ever home and get a chance to have a real family for the first time in her life. If you can sponsor this sweet girl and help us give her that chance, please visit the Collie Rescue Network website where you will find information on how to sponsor Katie.

Randy - Rough Collie - Adoptable in Saskatchewan

This picture is not really of me, it's of a collie who looks a lot like me. I don't have any photos of me yet to share with you but you will get the idea of what I look like.
My name is Randy and I am looking for a fur-ever home in Saskatchewan. I am 2 years old and I love to play with my toys. I'm a really nice boy who gets along with everyone I meet and I have a tail wag for everybody!
I like other dogs, cats and kids too. I'm just an all-around nice guy. If you have a big fenced yard for me to romp around and play ball in that would be amazing because I love to run and play, that's for sure. I'm told I am "goofy" but it's said in a really nice, loving way so I think that means I'm funny and cute.
I hope you like to give good, long butt scritches because boy oh boy, do I ever love those! I am really affectionate and if you want to be snuggle buddies, well, I can do that too.
My one "issue" is that I don't like to share my food with other dogs or the cats. I will growl at them to tell them, "back off mister, this is mine!" but that is easily worked out because I just get fed in a separate room and then all the bowls get lifted up off the floor when everyone is done. It works really well and everyone is happy.
I will happily share my toys with the other dogs though, it's just the food I'm not willing to share. I like to take my ropes and bones over to the other dogs and try to encourage them to play with me. Fun games like tug-of-war with them is a hoot!
Let's see, I am crate-trained, housetrained, I know my basic obedience and I am a good boy walking on my leash. I like car rides and can come lots of places with you. I think I am a great dog and would love to find a real family to call my very own.
If you think you are my new family can you let the Collie Rescue Network people know at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com today? I'd love to find a home soon. You can also visit the Collie Rescue Network website and read about the adoption procedures and find more information about the rescue.

Maggie Found A Home!

Sweet Miss Maggie found her fur-ever home! We are so thrilled for her as well as her new mom, Gwen and her new best-doggie-friend, Honey.

Maggie came to CRN when her elderly owner moved full-time into an assisted living facility. She is 11-12 years old, has some arthritis and really just wanted to be loved. Well, has she found that with Gwen and Honey! Maggie spends her days playing "chase me" with Honey, round and round the furniture in the living room, having a grand old time.

She spends the rest of her time seeing what Gwen is up to and lending a paw with things like couch sitting, snoozing and rub my butt time (she excels at all of them).

Maggie is such a sweet girl with a wonderful personality and we're so happy she has found a home of her very own and she can now retire in style and know she's home for good!

Leroy - Collie Mix - Adoptable in Ontario

I'm Leroy and everyone says I am cute as a button. Sometimes they say "cute as a bug" too which is just weird! Regardless of how they say it, I know I'm pretty darn cute. I think it's because I have the sweetest eyes and the cutest funny little ears.

I am around 1 1/2 years old and I was a stray that no one came to claim so I ended up in a shelter. Then the shelter called Collie Rescue Network and they came to pick me up and now I live in a foster home and I'm loving that. I have two other dogs to play with and some older kids and everything. In my foster home there are toys and places called "crates" that are so comfy and safe.

I'm a super nice boy who would love to find a fur-ever family who is active and goofy, just like me. I am young, remember, so I still act sort of like a puppy with lots of energy and loads of love to spread around. I'm going to obedience classes with my foster mom and I'm learning lots of new things. I'm so smart that way though.

If my new family had a nice, friendly, laid-back dog for me to romp around the yard with that would be wonderful. I'm neutered and I've been to the vet for my vaccinations and my check-up and I was such a good boy there. My foster family gave me a bath and I was so well-behaved for that too even though everyone knows dogs like being dirty (humans are crazy like that...clean this, clean that!). Oh well, they said I smelled great afterwards and I guess that's a good thing.

I just came to rescue about a week ago so my foster family is still learning things about me as we go along. When they say they know more they said we can come back here and update some things so everyone will want to adopt me (I think everyone already would because I am just such a nice boy but they say we'll wait to get to know me better and since they won't give me the password for the blog I guess we'll have to do it that way).

Cassidy - Rough Collie - Adoptable in Ontario

Hi! My name is Cassidy. I am about 6 years old and I am searching for my very own fur-ever home.

You'd never know it from meeting me but I am blind and I have been since birth (I have no eyes). I had CEA (Collie Eye Anomoly) which happens sometimes to Collies unfortunately. My blindness doesn't affect me in the least. You'll be so surprised, everyone is! I run like the wind, I walk around the house, I go for walkies on my leash, I like car rides and I meet and greet the visitors at the door. Everyone who meets me is truly amazed when they find out I am totally blind because I just don't act like it at all. When we come to a flight of stairs my foster mom says, "Cassidy, Steps" and I walk right up them. I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised that I don't let me blindness affect me at all; I am a really smart girl after all!

My foster mom tells me I am very sweet and she's right. I am just a total doll if I do say so myself. I really like playing with other dogs and my current foster brother is such a hoot, we play wrestle and run and chew each other's fur. I'd love to find a fur-ever home where there was a playful, laid-back doggie buddy for me to hang with and play with. I'm also excellent with cats but I do like to play with them a bit. The cat in my foster home will chase me around and then I chase her. My foster mom bought a collar with a bell on it for her because she was pouncing on me when I didn't know she was there! Cats are so sneaky! It's all in fun though and me and the cat, we have a good time even if it's a cat and not a collie.

I need a thyroid pill every month but it doesn't cost very much (about $15/month) and it keeps me healthy.

I am spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, had all my pokes and prods done to say I'm healthy. I like cats and dogs and all kinds of people and even kids! My foster mom says I am just a really well-rounded, social girl who adapts to change well as long as there is plenty of love so I know things are all good. If you are a fun family who thinks I am the girl to make your home complete please let the folks at Collie Rescue Network know at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com. You can also visit the CRN website to fill in an online adoption application and read all about our adoption procedures.

See you later!

Brie - Smooth Collie - Adoptable in Ontario

My name is Brie and I am a 9-year-old Smooth Collie who would really love to find my very own fur-ever home. I am a very sweet girl who is very active for my age and likes to play and romp around the yard with the other dogs in my foster home. I'm good with cats and older children.

I would love to find a home where someone will see just how special I am and really love me and my sweet, gentle personality. I love to be told how pretty I am and be doted on. If you can give me loads of rubs and pets and hugs that would be heaven because I am a very affectionate gal.

I had an accident when I was little, my face was hit by a car, so I am blind in one eye but you would never know it since my other eye works just fine. I need someone to wipe my blind eye with a nice warm cloth once a day and I am so good when you do it; I stand there and be very patient because it doesn't hurt at all and it only takes a few seconds each day.

If you are looking for a well-behaved, loving, sweet girl...well, here I am. I walk nicely on my leash and we could go for walks together every day. Then, when we get home, we can curl up on the couch together and watch a movie (maybe Lassie? I heard that's a good one!). I know all my basic obedience and I listen exceptionally well. My foster mom says I am just an all-around great dog who would fit into just about any home because I am so gentle and undemanding. If you offer my love and affection I will return it one hundred times over.

If you want to adopt me you can let the Collie Rescue Network people know at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com. You can visit the Collie Rescue Network website to read about the procedures for adoption too.

Marley - Rough Collie - Adoptable in Alberta

HEY! I am Marley and I am so pretty! I am just 18 months old and I love to run and play and bounce around and go, go, go. I have loads of energy which is great if you are an active family who is looking for a sweet, friendly, bouncy girl to join your family!

I love my toys so you'll need to have plenty of those. If you had some kids that would play toys with me, that would be great! My favourite game so far is this: you throw a ball and I run and get it. Then I bring it half-way back and drop it. You grumble something and come pick it up.....and then we do it again. It's hilarious! In the last week I felt sort of sorry for my foster mom and I brought the ball all the way back to her though. She's nice so I thought I'd give her a break.

I really like people of all ages and if they'd like to fawn over me and tell me how very pretty I am, well, that works for me. We can all go for long walkies together and hiking and anything else that would use up some of my spare puppy energy. I used to live outside all the time but I don't have to do that anymore. Did you know inside is warm? Who knew!

I am fairly new to rescue and my foster mom is still learning all about me so once she knows more we'll update the blog. So far they tell me I'm going to get spayed on Monday, which is a good thing because I don't want to have any puppies! Then how would I have time to play and bounce around with you? I'm also going to be micro-chipped so if I ever get lost they will know you are my family and you can come pick me up right away and they are going to make sure I have my vaccinations too.

If you'd like to put an adoption application in for me please visit the Collie Rescue Network website and read about the adoption procedures. You can also email adoption@collierescuenetwork.com for more information about me.

Duke - Collie Mix - Adoptable in Ontario

I am Duke, a 1-2 year old collie/shepherd mix (maybe, no one told me for sure but that's what I think I am so there ya go). I'm pretty sure I should be a lap dog and if you like we can cuddle on the couch while I give you kisses and you can tell me how cute I am. *sigh* That would be great!
I'm a great boy who loves people and really likes to play with other dogs so if you have a young, bouncy, fun dog I can play with all the time, that would be great too. Then after playing with the dog, you and me can do the couch snuggle thing some more!! Doesn't that sound so fun!?!
If you are an active family who wants to play with me lots, maybe have some older kids who think throwing the ball in the yard and playing "run as fast as we can" would be fun, well, I am your boy.
I am sad to say I don't love to travel in the car though. It makes me kind of, well, sick to my stomach. I'm not sure if I'm just not used to it and I've heard that gravol works for dogs who get car sick so maybe we can try that. I hope no one thinks this is a reason not to adopt me. I'd be so sad if that were the case because I can't tell you enough how great I am. I am a really just an all-around amazing boy who is a great family dog. I'd be so much fun and I can even teach you things like 'Doggie Snuggles' and 'Big Dogs can be lap dogs too'.
Oh, I know what would be fun! We should attend obedience classes together. We'd bond that way really well, I would know exactly what you expect of me and I am so smart I could show up all the other dogs in the class!
If you are a fun-loving family who thinks I might be the dog for you, please let Collie Rescue Network know at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com. You can also read the website for information on what the adoption procedures are at http://www.collierescuenetwork.com/.
I'll go get my toys and wait for you!

Shine - Smooth Collie - Adoptable in Ontario

Am I the cutest senior you have ever seen? I am an 11 1/2 year old Smooth Collie who would truly love to find my fur-ever home. I'd like to retire with someone who will love me and want me to be happy for the rest of my days. I am in good health and active for an older guy but I'd like a home with few stairs if possible (I, like lots of older dogs, have slight arthritis in my back end that I take medication for).

I am a very well-adjusted boy who might be a little set in my ways but frankly lots of that is just show (when I pretend I can't hear you, just show me a cookie and suddenly I Can Hear! I Can Hear!.....I'm goofy that way).

I like other dogs, cats and people and enjoy pretty much anyone's company. I'd love to find a nice relaxing home where someone is home full-time to watch TV with, putter around in the garden with, go for short walks a few times a day with and just generally hang out together. I'd be a really happy guy if we could just spend time together and you could pat my sweet collie head as you walk past. I'll monitor the front window and door for you in return and I will love you loads too.

Let the Collie Rescue Network people know if you are interested in providing me with a warm, loving retirement home. They can be reached at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com. You can also read about how to adopt me at www.collierescuenetwork.com.

Dante - Sable Rough Collie - Adoptable in Ontario

My name is Dante and I am a 6 year old neutered, male Rough Collie who is in search of my forever home. I am being fostered n Ontario. I was adopted once, almost 4 years ago but now I am back due to a divorce in my adoptive family and no one could keep me.

I am a big boy at 93 lbs but I am not overweight....I'm just enormous. I love to play with other dogs and a new home with a fun-loving doggie buddy would be perfect. We could wrestle and play and chase each other all over the place!

I love kids but older than toddlers would be better as I am bouncy and playful and sometimes I accidentally knock little ones over without meaning to. I'd love some kids to play with though because I really like them (they're so fun!). I am a collie though, a herding breed, remember! That means that when I get overly excite I might nip heels or feet while we play.

A really active, out-going family is right up my ally. We could go hiking and jogging and swimming and camping and...well, anything outdoors and active and fun that I can be included in! I am a really, really good boy and I have excellent obedience skills so taking me places is not going to be a problem.

I like to bark at stuff because, well, I am a collie. Collies, like me, like to let you know when there is stuff happening outside or when someone is at the door. Personally I think I have a beautiful voice and I have things to say so really, it's all good in my world!

I get along wonderfully with dogs, cats, kids, adults, strangers.....I am just an all-around great dog (if I do say so myself). I need plenty of love, affection and attention and I'll be a happy boy. I really just want to be part of the family and everything you do, I can help! I swear! Well, not everything, like making cookies and stuff but I can watch and supervise though. I'd be great at that.

If you think you'd like to adopt me just let the Collie Rescue Network people know at adoption@collierescuenetwork.com and they'll talk to you about me and let you know how to talk to my foster family so they can tell you lots more things about me. Read the adoption procedures at the website too at http://www.collierescuenetwork.com/.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Welcome to Collie Rescue Network's Blog!

Our main website is www.collierescuenetwork.com but we thought we'd give blogging a whirl too! We know that lots of our adopters and volunteers, as well as tons of collie lovers out there are bloggers so we thought what better way to try to stay in touch with everyone and let people know what's happening at Collie Rescue Network these days.
